# Self-Assessment

The self-assessment tool is designed to help you explore your strengths and growth areas in learning related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). The purpose of the tool is to help you reflect upon your level of knowledge, awareness, skills, and action in a set of DEIB competencies that research indicates are essential for professionals in the field of education.

The current tool is framed broadly around issues of DEIB and intended to give you a general read on your own knowledge, awareness, skills and action. Although we plan to build a tool that covers multiple domains (e.g., race, class, gender, sexuality), currently some sections of the tool focus specifically on race, racism and ethnicity. In addition, we provide some standardized resources in this area. We begin with this focus because past experience has demonstrated that racism is an urgent and pervasive issue in many parts of the education sector. Ultimately, the tool we create will help students assess their understandings across multiple dimensions of diversity.
